From the Airport to Khamis Mushait
Khamis Mushait is a busy city in the Asir highlands, home to a large air base and a regular stop for families visiting relatives or shopping. The drive from Jazan runs up through the mountains and past Abha, so the last part is cooler and greener than the coast. It suits travellers whose hotel or relatives are on the Khamis side rather than in Abha itself.
By road it is about 220 km and usually takes 3 to 4 hours. Most of the way is on Highway 5 and Highway 10. The road passes Abha.
