The Drive from Al Khobar to Muscat
Muscat is far enough that most guests treat the drive as a journey in its own right, travelling for family occasions, business or a holiday by the Sea of Oman. You cross into the UAE at Al Batha, pass Al Ain and enter Oman at Al Buraimi, then follow the Batinah coast to the capital, so there is more than one border stop. Planning an overnight break halfway makes it far more relaxed.
By road it is about 1,150 km and usually takes 13 to 15 hours, plus time at the border. Most of the way is on E11 and Highway 95. The road passes Dhahran, Dammam and Al Ain.
