The Drive from Bahrain to Abha

Abha draws families in summer for its cool, misty mountains and green terraces in the Asir region, and some business travel as well. It is among the longest overland journeys from Bahrain, so a night on the way is common. In summer, afternoon cloud and fog can slow the final mountain roads, so aim to arrive before dusk.

By road it is about 1,400 km and usually takes 16 to 19 hours, plus time at the border. Most of the way is on Highway 30 and Highway 40. The road passes Al Khobar, Dhahran and Dammam.
