The Drive from Muscat to Nizwa
Nizwa is the classic day trip from Muscat, with its round fort tower, the souq and the Friday livestock market, and the road also carries families visiting relatives and travellers heading on to Jebel Akhdar or Bahla. The highway climbs through the Hajar mountains and takes 2 to 3 hours. Reach the fort early before the heat, and aim for a Friday morning if you want the market in full swing.
